Beechfield II

This now seems to have been abandoned by Dorbcrest. Instead we are now fighting a new application which I have nick-named Beechfield II(a) for 7 houses.

Is this a view worth keeping?
The photograph is taken from the Bridleway below the Beechfield II site.

Not content with  the environmental destruction of  Beechfiled I. Dorbcrest are back for more. They want to take the 5 houses they were finally allowed in that application up to 14.  They had tried to get two further plots of land but have failed for the moment. It seems as though there are still a few people left who value their gardens over a fist full of cash.

The houses are to be built on a combination of
1) Mature woodland trees which Dorbcrest should have indicated in its application.
2)A green field site as defined in government guidelines in PPG3.
3) Open grassland maintained as a large lawn.

The new houses are going to dominate the views in the valley below and be visible as far as Up Holland and Billinge. The current houses on this section of Almond Brook Rd. are reasonably well hidden by mature trees. The proposed housing will look like any other housing development tumbling down a hillside.

Post Script written 2003.

Dorbcrest did challenge the Tree Preservation Order. Wigan MBC had the guts to fight and won against Dorbcrest. The tree preservation order then made this development impractical and Dorbcrest backed down.

Many Thanks To All, Including Wigan MBC, For This Effort.
