Beech Walk

Don't confuse this with Beechfield. They are both off the same Almond Brook Road bend but this site is being built now by Wainhomes.

The Woodfold field plot, sold by the council, had no sensible means of access and is rumoured by miners, who ought to know, to have a pit truck turning point below it.

Councillor O'Niell the local Labour councillor, (and on both the finance and planning committees), explained in the local paper that the development of this site would be an exception for development because the council needed the money.

Never mind the fact that this site needs an access into the dangerous double white line bend on Almond Brook Road!

One is left wondering if this site set the precedent for Beechfield ?

In the site was a deep, free draining, hollow. An unusual feature on clay soils ! Some residents overlooking the site said that the hollow had only developed over the previous 10 years.

The hollow was filled, the site generally raised a bit  and it is now a  terracotta brick substitute for the views of St. Wilfred's spire that once existed from Shevington and Ashurst Beakon.  Now in 2003 the houses are blocking the drainage and Standish has a new pond and ice rink. Planners will tell you that they do consider drainage carefully.

Watch for the Council wording in the UDP to see their objectives for the rest of the land. The reason for the proposed junction on Green Ln. may not be quite what it seems. Currently, government policy PPG3 should protect this remaining land, being green and last used for grazing. It is interesting to speculate whether the council knew PPG3 was on the way before selling this land? The planners do get drafts of new PPG's.
